Rev. Don R.'s Obituary
Born July 26, 1920; went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2005.Don attended Northwest Bible College in 1939. He married his sweetheart, Herta E. Hanson, Feb. 23, 1940. They left for Burma as missionaries; June 10, 1940 and later they were forced to flee the country because of the Japanese invasion. In May 1942, he assisted Ralph Sander in the Little Chapel in Seattle, WA and in June 1943 the RogneÂ's left by boat for a mission trip to Alaska. Don founded the Evangelistic Tabernacle in Tacoma, WA and served as senior pastor from 1944-1985 and as associate pastor until 1991. He developed the chaplaincy program for the Pierce County Sheriff Dept. in the early 1960Â's and served as chaplain at several local hospitals. Don will be remembered for the Â"Harbor LightsÂ" TV program and Â"Songs in the NightÂ" radio broadcast, and as a youth and camp speaker. He also traveled extensively overseas on mission outreaches. Pastor Rogne counseled, visited, mentored and befriended hundreds of people from every walk of life.He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Herta; one daughter, Bonnie Jean Kraus (husband Dale); two grandsons, Joseph R. Finley, III (wife Teresa), Peter D. Finley; two great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marie Rogne.The family wishes to express a special thanks for the care and compassion of Dr. Richard Waltman and his staff, the staff of Life Manor Assisted Living and Allenmore Hospital.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Life Center Missions--Hulda Buntain.To celebrate DonÂ's life and ministry, a memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Life Center First Assembly of God, 1717 So. Union Ave., Tacoma.
