Rev. Clarence T. Mathes' Obituary
Reverend Clarence Mathes, a long-time resident of Tacoma, Washington, reached the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus and went home on April 18, 2015. Clarence was born in Paris, Arkansas on December 29, 1930 to Fred and Matilda Mathes. Clarence was one of 9 children and is survived by his one sister, Ruby J. Harris. Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Lela, who he married on March 4, 1955 in Tacoma Washington. Clarence and Lela had many nieces and nephews whom they love dearly. Clarence accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age. He began his service for The Lord as a Steward at Miles Memorial CME Church. Later he accepted the calling of the Lord and received his Certificate of Ordination in 2004. Reverend Mathes preached the Word at First Church of God in Paris Arkansas and Miles Memorial CME Church in Tacoma, Washington. He was also a member of the Missionary Society, The Promise Keepers and Gideon Bible Distributors. Reverend Mathes served as an Assistant Sunday School teacher and led Bible Study sessions at Miles Memorial CME Church and at the Gibson Gardens Senior Living House. Clarence served in the US Army for 6 years and fought in the Korean War. Upon leaving the military, he worked for Burlington Northern (BN) Railroad for 34 years where he retired. He also was a member of BN Credit Union for 60 years (1955 – 2015). Clarence will truly be missed and forever loved by his wife, Lela, family and friends.
