REMALE P. McCULLEY"MEL"Remale P. McCulley was born September 4, 1936 in West Memphis, Ark. She passed into the open arms of our Lord early Saturday morning, December 15, 2007. She was preceded in death by her father, James S. Pike, mother, Ethel Mae Bryant, stepfather, Otis Bryant and brother Levan A. Campbell.Remale accepted Christ at an early age of 12 at Trinity Baptist Church of Gary, IN where she worshipped and sung in the choir until her move to Tacoma in 1966. She was a 1953 graduate of Roosevelt High School, known as "The Mighty Velt" where she was an honor student and played drums in the school band. She married the rival school, Froebel's football player, Leslie McCulley Jr.Remale attended Purdue University and received her degree in Nursing and pursued her career at St. Catherines of East Chicago, IN until her move to Tacoma, where she became a nurse at Madigan Army Hospital in Ft. Lewis, WA until she retired in 1996.Remale leaves to celebrate her life her loving husband and caregiver, Leslie McCulley Jr and to this union Deborah E. McCulley and Leslie L. McCulley III were born. She was also mother to Nehemiah and Michael Vaughan, Stanley Chambers and Chris Robinson of Tacoma. Her brother Alvin R. Pike (Jeanette) of Gary, IN. Her stepsister Betty Bryant of Michigan City, IN. Her sister-in-law Cecelia Dooley of Gary, IN. Grandchildren: Devon E. Earls (Oliver) Laveen, ARZ, Michelle E.Matlock (Davion) Tacoma, Leslie L. McCulley IV (Alex) Vancouver, WA, Sarah McCulley Vancouver, WA, Mia and Zoe McCulley Puyallup, WA, Keyoshia Vaughan, North Carolina and Nia and Elijah Vaughan of Portland, ORE, Brandi Scaife of Tacoma, Nehemiah Vaughan of Tacoma and Michael Vaughan II of ARZ and Michael Vaughan III of Federal Way. She had 4 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
