Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez's Obituary
Rest In Peace Police Officer Reginald Jacob "Jake" Gutierrez
Tacoma Police Department, Washington
End Of Watch: 11-30-16
Ofc. Jake Gutierrez, 45, was shot and killed after responding to a call of an injured dog and to assist a homeowner with a tenant/verbal domestic argument(details within).
Born with a soul that has Courage to wear the Badge, Ofc. Gutierrez had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People as a Law Enforcement Officer for 17 years but his service to our beloved country and Her People began even earlier.
Brother Jake was a proud Patriot of the United States Navy, where he served faithfully with spirit to defend the freedoms and democracy of our nation with tours that included in the Persian Gulf during operation Desert Storm in 1991. Upon his decorated and Honorable discharge, Ofc. Gutierrez began rollin' and patrollin' with the Tacoma PD in 1999. He was currently assigned out of the Tacoma Sector 4.
Ofc. Gutierrez was a veteran who truly cared about his community and got involved in many ways but was most known for being able to diffuse domestic violence situations. Brother Jake had a way with words and with his calming demeanor, was able to deescalate parties involved quickly in order to sort through the grays and get to the truths.
TPD Police Chief Don Ramsdell adds: "He's a model police officer. He's highly dedicated to his profession. He's highly dedicated to his community and he demonstrated that every day that he came to work."
Courageous and Compassionate, Fearless and Fair, this Brave and Benevolent Brother of Blue simply wanted to make a difference in his small corner of the world. May we take a part of Brother Jake's legacy with us when we enter into our daily arenas while continuing to create our own. May we vow to continue with the same Honor, Integrity, and Valor as this True Blue served. May we always remember Police Officer Reginald Jacob "Jake" Gutierrez for how he Lived As Only A Hero Could.
May we never forget how this True Blue Hero gave his life to save others ...
