Raymond Carl Thompson's Obituary
Raymond C. Thompson was born in Olympia, WA on 10/19/1930, and passed away on 9/9/2010 at the family home in Tacoma, WA. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a 1949 graduate of Stadium High School. Ray worked as a Teamster for Hygrade Food Products, Nalley's, and West Coast Grocery. He served his community as a member of Elks Lodge #174. In 1955 Ray married G. Joanne Folden, and together they created a loving home and raised a family of three boys. Ray went to work each day, driving a truck for long hours, while Joanne tended to their home and young children. Ray's greatest legacy is the living example he provided for his sons - to be a devoted husband, a good dad, a loving son, and a good citizen. His commitment to his marriage and family was legendary, as was his wonderful sense of humor. At each of the crossroads in his life, Ray could be counted on to do the right thing, to pay attention to the details, keep anger at bay, to be kind and to be generous with forgiveness and acceptance. He loved his family with a quiet grace and provided for them with a generous heart and a steady hand. Ray Thompson was a good friend and a good man. Highlights of Ray's life included two trips to Europe and two family vacations to Maui. He always enjoyed visits from his family members and was particularly happy when those visits included a dog or two. Ray took great care in tending his yard and garden, enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle, and watching the Seahawks. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, G. Joanne Thompson, and was a wonderful father to Marc (Deanna) of Tigard, OR, Gary of Lakewood, and Jeff (Jenny) of Tacoma. Survivors also include two granddaughters, a step-granddaughter, step-grandson, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by a large extended family, including sister Beverly Stilson. Ray was predeceased by his parents Miller and Ethel, and two older brothers, Harold and Dale. The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Dilworth, Dr. Robert Finnerty, and their caring staff. Also a special thanks to Franciscan Hospice staff, especially Cathy, Dorothy and Casey. Per his request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice. "Remember me with a smile."
