Rachel Travis' Obituary
Rachel Travis went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, after a short illness. Rachel was born in Hood River, Oregon, July 22, 1961 to Rev. Byron and Darlene Travis. She spent her early years in Parkdale Oregon and moved to Washtucna, Washington when she was 7, graduating from high school there. She committed her life to Christ at a Washington State Christian Endeavor Convention. After high school, Rachel went on to earn her LPN and moved to Tacoma in 1984. She worked for 30 years as an LPN at Western Washington State Hospital. Rachel was a long time member of Parkway Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, singing in the choir, and faithful member of her Quest group. She loved animals, books and movies. Rachel made friends easily. She enjoyed giving cards to family and friends. One friend has spoken for all, saying, “Rachel was a constant encouragement to me, her cards were always sent at exactly the right time with the perfect words that were so uplifting.”
Rachel is survived by her sisters Deborah and Leah, her brother Stephen, her brothers-in-law Steve and David, sister-in-law Diane, her beloved nephew Patrick Ryan Travis, her Aunt Shirley Hawkins and cousins. A memorial service will be held on March 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Parkway Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Parkway Presbyterian, American Diabetes Association, Wounded Warriors, The Humane Society, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
