Rachel Lydia Peterson's Obituary
Rachel Lydia Crane Peterson, retired missionary to the Caribbean, entered into the presence of her Lord on October 24, 2005. Rachel was born in Tacoma, WA on December 19, 1911 to Arthur and Lena Crane. Prior to graduating from high school, her parents moved back to Battle Creek, Michigan. After graduating for high school, Rachel applied for admission and was accepted at Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri. While there, she met and fell in love with Einar, also from Tacoma. They married on July 6, 1936 and were both ordained May 5, 1938 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God. In August of 1941 they arrived in Palma Soriano, Cuba as missionaries. Rachel was a talented musician and seamstress. In addition to preaching and giving Bible classes, she was choir director, played the piano and accordion. She also sewed many of the clothes worn by her family. After being forced out of Cuba by the Fidel Castro regime, Rachel and her family moved to the Dominican Republic in November of 1961 as Directors of the Bible School. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Einar, on October 5, 2004; her parents, brother David, and sister Irene. Rachel is survived by her brother Alvin Crane, her children Lois & Adrian Ulvin, Paul Peterson, Evelyn & Jerry Goss, Larry & Kristine Peterson, and Vern & Jean Peterson. She had nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Cottesmore for her care this past year and Life Manor where she lived with Einar. A special Thank You to Life Center for their care and support of our parents all these years. Viewing will be from 1:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Mountain View Funeral Home, and a private burial will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2005 at Grays Chapel, Life Center, 1717 S. Union Ave. in Tacoma. Please make donations to Life Center for Foreign Missions.
