Phyllis Agnes Hale

Phyllis Agnes Hale passed away at home on October 23, 2014. She was born on November 23, 1918 in Tacoma, Washington and lived a long, interesting life. She was married for 55 wonderful years to Nathan Hale, who passed away in 1997. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving parents Frank and Ida (Toner) Albert, and siblings Lorraine Heath, Doug Albert, and Frank Albert.
Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Tacoma. She graduated from Stadium High School (1936), the College of Puget Sound (University of Puget Sound) and the Tacoma School of Nursing (1941). Later she returned to the UPS to become a teacher, and taught in the Tacoma Public Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1979.
Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Mason United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Fircrest Golf Club where she played 9 and 18 holes with women’s groups until her mid-eighties.
She was a participating member of weekly bridge groups from 1947 until late 2013. She enjoyed traveling with Nate, family, and friends. Trips throughout the United States, Canada and abroad continued her love of learning. Holidays and family birthday gatherings were important events for her. She was an avid reader and a regular visitor to the Tacoma Public Library. She also volunteered at the Discovery Shop in Tacoma.
Phyllis is survived by children; Jeff (Jan) Hale of Tacoma, Natalie (Rod) Reed of Poulsbo, and Melanie (Peter) Frey of Bellingham; grandchildren Jay Hale, Erin (Matt) Murphy, Adam (Jen) Frey, and Erica (Andrew) Anderson; and great grandchildren Jonathon and Wyatt Murphy, Addisen Frey and Chase Andersen.
Memorial service to be held at Mason United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 3 pm. The family would like to thank Mary and the Hospice team of Cathy, Julie, Dana, and Heidi for their compassionate care during the last months of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Multi Care Hospice or a charity of your Choice.
