Phyllis Emily Barrett's Obituary
Phyllis Emily Barrett peacefully passed away at age 95 during the early morning of April 19, 2015, with family and close friends beside her. All knew her as a talkative, cheerful, sweet soul that loved to tell stories of her life.
Born on August 6, 1919, in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, she was the oldest of three girls. Later a young Phyllis Martin set out with two girlfriends bound for Vancouver, B.C. There she met US Navy Engineman Dean Barrett. She became his wife and adoptive mother to Dean's 3 year old daughter Linda, and then moved to Tacoma. While raising Linda and their two sons, Marty and Michael, Phyllis lived in their house on Ainsworth for nearly 60 years where she was mother and more recently known as "Grandma B".
She was a good neighbor to those needing support, a popular Scout Den Mother as well as hostess to a regular and lively Saturday night penny-ante poker game with beloved family friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She is survived by son Michal (Susan Ward) sister Eleanor, grandchildren Cheri, Michelle, Matthew and Sean. She was preceded in death by Dean and two of her children Linda and Marty (Susan Barrett).
