Phillip Keith Wirth's Obituary
Phil Wirth, 84, passed away on September 11, 2024 of natural causes in Tacoma, WA.
Phil was born on 24 March 1940 to parents Bert and Ethel Wirth in Baker, OR. Phil grew up in New Bridge, OR, joined the Oregon national Guard in 1957, and graduated from Eagle Valley High School in Richland, OR in May 1958. He then joined the Army 31 October 1958. Phil married his beloved wife, Ellen, on 20 December 1959 in Fairfield, WA. After nearly 65 years of marriage, Phil continued to adore Ellen, always referring to her as his “blushing bride”.
In the Army, Phil worked in aviation, primarily in helicopter maintenance. He served two tours in the Vietnam War. Phil spent a number of years in his Army career stationed in Germany, where he made many memories exploring Europe with his family, while collecting clocks and antiques along the way.
After more than 26 years in the Army, he retired on 31 August 1985. Phil went on to run his own clock and watch repair business for many years. He was an active member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) where he made many lasting friendships. Phil advocated for veterans through organizations such as Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and American Veterans (AMVETS), and volunteered with Junior ROTC to support future military leaders.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ethel and sister, Sharon.
Phil is survived by his wife, Ellen, his two daughters: Tammey and Tina (Ed), grandchildren: Shawn (Alicia), Jennifer (Clifford), and Sara, great-grandchildren: Galadriel, Hezekiah, Zephaniah, and Aurora, sister: Virginia, brothers: Wayne and David, and numerous extended family members.
Phil Wirth, a beacon of charm and intelligence, will forever reside in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, October 25th at 10:00am. In remembrance of Phil’s legacy, the family requests – in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) or to Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) two organizations Phil felt strongly about.
