Phillip S. Tracy's Obituary
Phillip S. Tracy was born in Ute, Iowa May 27, 1928, passed peacefully on September 21, 2012. He was the youngest and last to survive of 5 children born to Susan Kathrine and Clyde Tracy. When Phillip was 14 his family moved to California where he graduated from Antioch High School in 1947. After joining the US Army and serving in Korea, Phillip attended Modesto Junior College in California and then the University Of Washington School Of Law. A self made man, raised during the Great Depression, he worked his way through college using the G.I. Bill and "smashing" baggage at the Union Station in Seattle. He graduated with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1954 and entered private practice, forming the partnership of Peters and Tracy, where he became one of Pierce County's most respected attorneys. Phillip was joined by his son Lawrence in 1981 where they practiced together under the firm name Tracy and Tracy until his retirement. Phillip practiced law for over 50 years in courts throughout Washington and was an active member of the Washington State, American, and Pierce County Bar Associations. He served as a judge pro-tem and on various bar association committees. Phillip was an avid outdoorsman. He loved bird hunting and golfing throughout the Pacific Northwest and walking the beaches of the Oregon Coast with his beloved wife. He also loved landscaping - his yard looked like a park. Phillip is survived by his devoted wife, Anna Frances (Fran) of 33 years; and by his 3 children from his first marriage: Gwendolyn Tracy-Austin, Diane Tracy Shier (Shane), Lawrence Phillip Tracy (Tracey). He is also survived by Fran's children: Jami Wilson (Darrin Luther), Mitzi Peffer, Jim, Jerry, and David Massey. Phillip also leaves behind his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grasp of Phillip's warm hand and heart will never be forgotten. A special thank you to Franciscan Hospice House for making his passing peaceful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association . A memorial service will be held Friday Sept. 28 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lakeview Church of Christ, 1709 South 112th Street South - Tacoma 98444.
