I just recently discovered a picture of Phil playing with Cole, Johnny Jones, Frank Hopp, and myself at Spanaway Park in the early '80's. His bass playing always stood out in my memory as having great tone, timing and taste. Rest in peace, brother.##imported-begin##Ray Murphy##imported-end##

We met Phil about 10 years ago and am glad we did. We were never real close but he was always a big help when I (Ginger) had questions about the bass. I used to play bass and feel like I've forgotten everything. He told me it would come back, just to keep practicing. I was in Allenmore Hospital and Phil walked by my room. When the nurses left he came back to visit. Before he left he prayed with me. Such a wonderful feeling. He always encouraged me in my quest to relearn music (bass) and learn new instruments (mandolin). Sometimes he'd just say "HI, are you practicing?" One of our best is now playing and singing in the best band. He'll still be at our jams so listen real hard and you might hear some licks (or harmonizing) you don't see the bass player doing. I am writing this on behalf of my cousin John Jones. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family especially his grandson.John was saying today how much he was going to miss Phil and their talks. John considered Phil one of his best friends cause Phil made it a point to call him and let him know what was going on. We were both glad to hear he had finished his cd and when it is available would love to get a copy.
