Philippine "Kitty" Moore's Obituary
Philippine “Kitty” Moore, born March 26, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, died in Pensacola, Florida on June 24, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clifton M. Moore, and her first-born son, Jesse. At the age of 84, her passing brings to an end, a life filled with laughter, hard work and love.
After her marriage, she accompanied her husband whenever possible on his military tours of duty. In each location, she established a home, raised her children, and made many lifelong friends along the way.
Kitty had a passion for family and the many dogs that shared her life and home. Her hard work took many forms and crossed the traditional boundaries between male and female roles. In many ways, she was an early feminist. She and her husband worked side by side on many construction projects and she was as accomplished with a hammer and sheet-rock taping tools as she was with her sewing machine, crochet hook, and knitting needles. Many of the items she sewed, knitted, and crocheted continue to be treasured heirlooms, as they adorn the homes and children of her family. Her creations gave us a piece of her that will be cherished and passed down to future generations.
Kitty is survived by her sister, Maria Fortier; her daughter, Karen Teague; her son, Randy Moore; five grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Although she often portrayed a “tough exterior,” her capacity to love, share and give was unparalleled. She will be sorely missed.
