Pedro T. Antolin's Obituary
Pedro T. Antolin passed away peacefully the evening of June 27, 2006 at his home in Lakewood at the age of 99. A retired Sergeant First Class in the US Army, he served his country in World War II and in the Korean War. It was during his service during the Korean War, while stationed at the U.N. headquartersÂ' Hialeah CompoundÂ's officerÂ's mess hall in Pusan, he met a co-worker that would become his wife and life partner, Naomi. Pedro was born in Santa Maria, Illocus Sur, Philippines on March 1, 1907 to Timothy and Cecilia Antolin. Pedro came to the US in 1927 to fulfill his dreams of a better life. He would regale his grandchildren with his exploits from his youth; sailing away from his home and family in the Philippines at age 20, working in the Alaskan fish canneries, buying a brand new Buick from his earnings and traveling from state to state looking for the next job opportunity, all the while learning the customs of his adopted country. Pedro was a founding member of the St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Lakewood and the Filipino-American League in Tacoma. He was also known for his garden, which he cultivated until the very end. Every year he would raise a variety of vegetables in his backyard garden, which he would share with his children, friends and neighbors. In addition to his expertise in the garden he was an excellent cook and fisherman. He enjoyed gathering with his friends sharing stories from their early life in America and how their children and grandchildren were growing up in a world vastly different from the one they experienced when they were young. Pedro will be missed by his wife, Naomi, his five children; Nancy Burnett (Jerry), Peter Antolin (Robin), Robert Antolin (Trudy), Grace Webster (Don), and Edwin Antolin (Susan) and his 17 grandchildren. There will be a viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 4 and 5 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of PedroÂ's life will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2006, beginning with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30, and the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St John Bosco Catholic Church, 10508 112th St SW Lakewood, Washington. PedroÂ's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and staffs of St. ClareÂ's Hospital and St. JosephÂ's Hospital, Dr. Jerry Sullivan, and the Franciscan Hospice program for the care and understanding they provided to our dad during his last few weeks. In leiu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the St John Bosco PastorÂ's Fund, 10508 112th St SW Lakewood, Washington 98498, which benefits an orphanage in Haiti.
