Pearlie M. Carr's Obituary
Pearlie Mae Carr, born July 29, 1924, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was 100 years old.
Pearlie was born in Alexandria, Louisiana to Raymond Hudson, Sr. and Pearl Hudson. She was the oldest of four children. Pearlie attended school in the Alexandria School System and graduated from Peabody High School.
Pearlie married the love of her life, Theola Carr, Sr. in March, 1944. They moved out west in 1946 and settled in Tacoma, Washington where she lived for the next 79 years. For many years she was a stay-at-home mom to her three children. She was an instrumental part of raising three generations of Carr children, as well as nurturing many children in the neighborhood.
Pearlie began her career at Ft. Lewis, WA working in the laundry. She later moved to the Commissary where she worked the overnight shift as Lead Merchandise Stocker, receiving many awards recognizing her outstanding attendance, work ethic, and leadership skills. She retired after 30 years of service.
Pearlie was very active and enjoyed many activities with her family, including visiting Mt. Rainier, trips to Disneyland, Disney World, Hawaii, participating in the Sound-To-Narrows walk, and introducing her family to her favorite past time activity, playing B-I-N-G-O! Pearlie loved her family and one of her many talents was her great cooking. She used that talent to bring the family together as often as she could with gatherings filled with fun, laughter, and fantastic food.
In the summer of 2024, Pearlie celebrated her 100th birthday. She was presented with a certificate of acknowledgement by the Mayor of Tacoma for becoming a Centenarian.
Pearlie is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Raymond Hudson, Sr.; two brothers, Raymond Hudson, Jr. and Cleveland Hudson; her sister, Ruby Smith; and her loving husband of 70 years, Theola Carr, Sr.
She is survived by her three children, Theola Carr, Jr. (Kriss), Linda Davis (Andrew), Michael Carr (Sylvia); five grandchildren, Stephanie Larry (Cedric), N'Namdi Fields (Jessica), Andrea Carr, Jason Carr (Shantal) and Amber Cross (Mark); 13 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and cousins, Jonnie Johnson (Jim), Norma Patrick, JoAnn Brackins, Willie Brackins; and many family friends.
Pearlie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. She embodied strength, kindness, grace and perseverance and left an unforgettable impression on everyone she met.
