Paul Dustin Smith's Obituary
Paul Dustin Smith, Age 64, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15th, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. He was born June 16th, 1952 to Edwin Harold Smith and Lar Rees Vernon Berg Smith in Tacoma, Washington. Paul is survived by his wife of 17 years Shirley Smith (Milcoff). His Children Dustin (wife Jennifer) and Tina. Step-Children (which he thought of as his own) Michael and Christina Tierce. Three sisters LarRees Hess, Gail Hamlin, Janette Stone. His Grandchildren, Ashley, Hayley, Brianna, Chelsea, Briella, Emmalyn Smith, Hayden and Delaney Tierce, Carlee, Devyn and Kelsey Stargel, Tyran Smith whom he and Shirley were raising as their own and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin Harold Smith and Lar Rees Vernon Berg, Step Son Joseph Tierce and Siblings Linda Asbjornsen and Boyd Smith.
Paul worked for AWI for 38 years, retiring only 2 years ago, a career in which he loved and considered to be his 2nd home. He served in the United States Navy for four years. Paul loved spending time with his family, including his wife, children and numerous grandchildren.
Paul and Shirley first met in the 7th grade, found each other later in life and fell in love. They loved spending time together outdoors walking on the beach for hours and camping in their fifth wheel on Harstine Island. Together they also loved the Road trips they took to the Oregon coast and to Leavenworth every year to the tree lighting ceremony, where Paul’s eyes would always light up when they lit the tree.
Paul enjoyed hunting which he shared fondly with his son Dustin and other family members. Paul enjoyed playing golf and was a dedicated Bronco’s fan. One of Paul’s passions was being a coach, as he coached baseball for many years, he will truly be missed on the field by players and families. Paul had a contagious laugh, a warming smile, and a love for his family that will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park. The address is 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, Washington 98499. A viewing will be held at 9:00 AM, followed by the service at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Reception in Paul’s Honor immediately following the service.
