Ret. MSGT Paul Wynter Goff's Obituary
Ret. Air Force MSgt Paul Wynter Goff was born 11 August 1930 in Tacoma, Washington, and peacefully passed away 15 April 2016.
Paul was raised in Marysville, WA and enjoyed fishing and playing on the banks of the Skagit River. In 1947 he was an Everett Eagle in High School and from there he decided to join the Army Air Corps and began a journey that spanned 22 years before he retired as a MSgt in 1969. Paul met his beloved wife, Charlotte, at a Knights of Columbus dance while stationed in Spokane Washington. While serving in the Air Force they traveled the world together to include Italy and Turkey. Paul was gone from home a lot serving his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Retiring in Tacoma, Washington in 1969, they settled into a beautiful home where they continued raising their children. Having all those mouths to feed it soon became apparent his 250.00 dollars a month for retirement pay was not going to keep the lights on and food in the fridge. So, he became a Postman, where he earned the nickname “Postman Paul”. Paul delivered mail throughout the Puyallup area for 18 years before retiring. As if raising 8 kids, retiring twice and trying to keep up with Charlotte wasn’t enough, he took on another part time job in a Mail Boxes service center for another 15 years. Paul was an avid golfer, bowler and swimmer. He dabbled in Magic, performing live shows. He also played on the NCO softball team in Italy where he was nicknamed “Twinkle Toes”. He loved to travel with Charlotte to Reno annually to enjoy the shows and drop a few coins. He admitted that Charlotte’s Keno numbers were better than his. On the 9th of April 2016, all 8 siblings gathered along with their spouses, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren for the first time in 15 years for a family reunion and to celebrate what would have been Paul and Charlotte’s 66th wedding anniversary. He was proud of all of his children, was happy to see them all together and loved them dearly. Paul made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be missed by many. Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife Charlotte, mother Naomi, and father Paul, brothers Donald, Harold and Bill. Paul leaves behind eight wonderful children, Sharon Carroll, Steve (Dianna), Carrie (Don) Presley, Janet (Greg) Schwanz, Jeanette (Eric) Thompson, Curtis (Lori), Craig (Deanne) and Pam (Bob) Speelman, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Service to be held 11:30, 30 April at Mountain View Memorial Park in the Celebration of Life Chapel. Viewing will be 10:00 to 11:00 prior to service. A reception will follow in The Willow Room.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Tacoma Rescue Mission a foundation dear to Paul.
