Paul F. Guy's Obituary
Paul F. Guy, 74, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, February 18th surrounded by his family.
Paul was born in Detroit, MI and raised in the Cleveland area. He attended the University of Michigan where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees, and was a proud member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Following graduation he was married and after briefly serving in the Army, he began his 34-year career at Ford Motor Company.
He was proud of the work he did as an executive with Ford, and was instrumental in introducing robotics within the automotive industry. Additional accomplishments included initiating Quality Management practices for Ford worldwide, and subsequently becoming a Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award Examiner.
Paul retired and moved to the Northwest in the early 90's where he started a second career as a commercial real estate appraiser. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, golf, tennis, and sailing. Additionally, he enjoyed researching his family genealogy, which entailed numerous trips to Europe.
He served on the board of The United Way, was a member of the Lakewood Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and the Lakewood Racquet Club.
The last 10 years of his life were filled with Rotary ski trips, Roadster Romps, ballroom dance classes, USTA tennis matches, and time spent with Cindy at their Packwood cottage/cabin. Paul's family and friends were the center of his life.
Paul is survived by: his loving soul mate Cindy Thompson and her daughter Christine Buckley; his sisters: Carol (Weldon) Minchew and Gloria (Walter) Yaworsky;
his six children: Julie Menard, John (Kathy) Guy, Jane McFadden, Jim (Lovey) Guy, Joanna Whitt, Jennifer (Chris) Hartwig, his adopted son Steve (Angie) Guy; his 15 grandchildren: Katie and Paul Menard, Matthew and Steven Guy, Max and Sam McFadden, Zach and Sommer Guy, Stephanie, Samantha, Madison and Lily Whitt, Molly Lutz, Garrett and Rachel Hartwig.
