In addition to his pastoral ministry, Paul was a loving father of four children: Peter, David, Mark and Ann. He also was active as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and enjoyed travel, wood carving and woodworking.
Upon retirement in 1989, Paul volunteered as a builder with the Mission Builders group of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Habitat for Humanity. Beginning in 2001, Paul dedicated his life to caring for his wife Rachel, who struggled with Alzheimer’s disease until her passing in 2008. In 2011, he married Louise Lindeman of Tacoma and they enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends while residing at Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community. Over the last 15 years of his life, Paul spent many hours assembling quilt tops for distribution by Lutheran World Relief, producing over 1,250 quilt tops during the period.
