Patti Ann Hall's Obituary
Patti Ann Hall passed away at the age of 82 after a long illness on July 10, 2023 at the Tacoma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tacoma, Washington where she resided for five years. Patti was born to the late George Albert McAllister (1910—1997) and Mary Elizabeth Brown (1922—2020) on November 25, 1940 in Grants Pass, Oregon. Her legacy includes her only child, Elizabeth Mae Koechner of Smithville, Missouri, who is pre-deceased by her father, Carl Wayne Koechner (1944—2013), as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Patti was happily married to the late Donald William Hall (1940—2007) for nine years, where she tenderly cared for him while his health progressively declined, and her devotion never wavered. Donald was a cheerful and compassionate man, and he and Patti would often engage in good-natured and amusing banter—a tendency which enabled their relationship to flourish despite the hardship and suffering that accompanies chronic illness.
The Great Depression largely shaped Patti’s formative years, where she would often recite the persistent scarcity she endured during childhood, and resultantly, her home was cluttered with trinkets, curios, and oddments that were piled haphazardly and precariously from floor to ceiling, each chronicling some significance that she would excitedly expound to those willing to listen. Fortunately, her older adulthood was replete with love and support from her friends, family, and church, and thus, this belonging and connection filled her being, and she was not lacking.
Throughout her life, Patti took great pride in her service to others and endeavored to create a profound sense of connection and community among all. Longtime members of the Lake City Community Church in Lakewood, Washington, Patti and Donald would warmly greet each of the attendees with a fragrant, freshly brewed cup of coffee every Sunday morning. During her years at the long-term care facility, she would eagerly introduce her caregiver to every resident and staff member as she was wheeled across the grounds—a hallmark of a Goodwill Ambassador and the title that she was awarded at the Tacoma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. As a single mother, she would stay home with her daughter, Elizabeth, when she fell ill to comfort her and ease her pain. Elizabeth fondly recalls the glimmer of delight in her mother’s eyes whenever she would open a package she received from her, and how Patti would joyfully and energetically race over to her friends to proudly present her treasured gifts.
Patti was a deeply compassionate and understanding person, as well as charming, zany, and zestful. She radiated warmth and belonging wherever her loving and kind attention beamed. She is forever in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers.
The family is forever in debt to her caregiver, Margie Harris, for all of her support in recent years. We are deeply appreciative of your friendship and kindness, and we are fortunate to have known and worked with you.
The family will honor Patti’s memory in a private event. To share a memory of Patti or send condolences to her family, please visit www.mountainviewtacoma.com. Arrangements by the Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma, Washington.
