Patricia (Pat) Ann Redmond's Obituary
Our dear mother Patricia (Pat) Redmond was born on February 6th 1948. The oldest girl of seven to Garnett and Lulu Thomas. Mom was called home to be with the Lord on February 9th 2023. We were blessed to have celebrated her 75th birthday with her a few days before.
Mom was known for many different things, but one major thing was her garden. She was an avid gardener. The love of gardening started at a young age. She especially loved tending to her many types of roses and gifting some to others too. She also would grow a large vegetable garden that she would share with family, friends, and neighbors nearby. Mom never needed an excuse to celebrate. She loved every holiday. If you were on her mailing list, you would get a card in the mail. During the holidays Mom and Dad would decorate their home and yard a great deal. You could drive by and see their amazing light and balloon display and this brought Mom great joy and anyone else who saw it. Mom also enjoyed painting ceramics, crocheting and cross stich. Many were the recipient of her unique handmade gifts she would give at the holidays or birthdays.
Mom loved the community she lived in and served it the entire time she lived in her home. She touched so many lives. Mom was first known as “Mrs. Redmond” but once she took a job at the News Tribune she began to be known as the “paper lady”. She then started a career at Arlington Elementary that spanned over three generations. There she would be the crossing guard and playground supervisor. She would also volunteer at Arlington to help where needed.
Mom married our father Michael in June of 1974, and took the role of army wife very quickly. Mom and Dad were married for 49 years. Soon after marriage they headed to Panama with their daughter Becky. In Panama they had a son named Michael in 1976. After three years in Panama, they came back to Tacoma and found their forever home. They had another son Tom in 1978. Tacoma is where they stayed and raised their three children.
Pat is preceded in death by her brothers Jack, Bill and Earl and youngest sister Susan. She is survived by her husband Mike of 49 years, Daughter Becky, Son Michael (Yuko), Son Thomas (Chelsee). Grandsons James, Jacob, Joseph, Michael and, Brian. Granddaughter Kimberly. And Great Grandson Jenson.
Sisters Barbara (Tom) and Bonnie. Numerous nieces and nephews. And so many people she called her
friends.
