Patricia Anna Josephine Andrieux Berkenkamp's Obituary
Patricia Anna Josephine Andrieux Berkenkamp 94, passed away peacefully with family at her side, after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Paris, France on 23 Jan 1922 to Yvonne du Boulay & Joseph Andrieux. A well known artist, who spent her adolescent years in Martinique, schooled in London, England and returned to Castries, St. Lucia. In 1942, she met and married her life-long partner, Col. Eugene H. Berkenkamp in a full-dress military ceremony. They resided in Ohio, California, Washington D.C., Sweden, Texas, Long Island, and Washington State. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Crystal River, Florida to be closer to family and finally to an Alzheimer’s facility in Gainesville, Florida.
Preceding her in death were her husband Eugene and daughter Carolyn. Surviving family include daughter Marita G. Bassa (Philip), grandchildren: Michelle Boedcher (Darien), Michael McCurdy (Brandi), Anthony Berkenkamp, and Nicole Bassa; great grandchildren: Branden, Tyler, Easton, Atlas, Brooke, Gwyn, Jordan and Riley.
PAJA, her pen name, received many awards and was nationally recognized for her flowered china paintings, which appeared on the covers of several magazines. Facial expressions in her work stood out as a trademark of her unique brushstrokes. Her remains will be placed at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma, Washington.
