Othell Watkins' Obituary
Othell Watkins was born February 26, 1938 in Olmstead, Illinois, the eldest of three children. His parents were Celesta Williams and Richard Tyson.
He grew up in the peace and security of a small town during the Forties and Fifties. He attended and graduated from Washington Elementary School in Olmsted, and Lovejoy High School in Mound City, Illinois.
Othell grew up participating in school and church activities. He enjoyed many friends. He played varsity basketball for three years. After graduating from high school, Othell enlisted in the U.S. Army. He ended up in Seaside, California and lived there for over 40 years before moving to University Place, Washington.
After discharge from the U.S. Army, Othell worked for the Monterey Peninsula Cable Company as a cable technician, which he retired from. He was loved and respected by his employer and co-workers. He was an active member of the VFW and the AM Vets and enjoyed being around his fellow veterans.
Othell made friends easily and was a very social person. He loved to play cards, make road trips, and going to the Blues Festival.
He is survived by the love of his life of 35 years, Gert; 5 children and 3 step-children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. Marilyn Magee Talbert; his brother, Ronnie Williams; his aunt, Mrs. Addie Wilson Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends throughout the United States.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2014 from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM at Mountain View Funeral Home.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1:00 PM, in The Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park.
