Otha James Slater was born on June 14, 1946 to the proud parents N.K. and Lillie Mae Slater in Ariton, AL.  He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  He retired from Amtrak Railroad Services after 25 years, and moved to Washington State where he became a longshoreman, working at the Port of Tacoma for almost 20 years, until his passing.
Otha J. Slater was predeceased by his parents; brother, Samuel Slater, Sr., of University Place, WA; and sister Mary Slater of New Haven, CT.  He leaves to cherish his memories daughters Regina Wicks (Warren) of New Haven, CT and Michelle Slater of Greeleyville, SC; four grandchildren:  D'Andre, Troy, Warren Jr. and Catherine Wicks, all of New Haven, CT; sisters Emily Caple (J.C.), Rebecca Terry (Ronald), and Jeannette Peavy, and brother Sterling Slater, all of Ariton, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Viewing will be held on Friday, July 25th, 2008 from 1:00-9:00 PM at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Tacoma, WA 98499.  Funeral services will be held in Ozark, AL.
