Orest Nicholas Rush's Obituary
Orest Nicholas Rush passed away after a long illness on July 27, 2006. Born in Tacoma on November 28, 1928, he lived in the area all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Paraskeva Rush and his sister, Irene Rush Ferris. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and attended both Pacific Lutheran College and Bethany Lutheran College. He served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation and a National Defense Service Medal. Upon his return from the service, he ran the Bone Dry Shoe Store on Commerce Street in Tacoma and then the Clothes Fair in Auburn. He often expressed his thanks for the opportunity to play with his many golfing friends and buddies which was one of the highlights of his life. For a golfer who was not a long-ball hitter, he accomplished the feat of making seven holes-in-one. He also participated in many recreational athletics, including competitive basketball, bowling and baseball.He is survived by his sons, Gregg and Jeff, daughter, Chris, and former wife of 35 years, Audree, as well as his brothers, Ray S. Rush (Beverly) of Federal Way and William J. Rush (Patricia) of Gig Harbor. He leaves grandchildren, Heather, Kenny, Ryan, Clint, Robert and Mathew, a number of great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews, including his namesake, Nicholas Orest Jeschke. A large number of family relatives are still living in Ukraine.The last five months of his life were spent at the Sound Vista Village in Gig Harbor and the family would like to express their thanks to the staff for their loving care. They would also like to thank the staff at Tacoma General Emergency.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to your favorite charity. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2006 in the Celebration of Life Center at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Boulevard S.W., Tacoma.
