Odell A. Lipp's Obituary
Odell A. LippOdell A. Lipp, 82, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2003, after a long and full life. He was born on June 23. 1920, in Unionville, Missouri, and was one of four sons. His father and mother were Robert and Evelyn Lipp.Odell met his wife-to-be, Florence Berry in 1942 and married her on January 5, 1943. Soon after they wed, Odell served his country in World War II, bringing his wife with him around the U.S. whenever he could. Together they had three children, Ronald Lipp, Caroline Sprinkle and Jerry Lipp. Odell and Florence worked a farm in Missouri before moving out west and continued light farming as a lifelong hobby since then. Odell also worked in the logging industry for a short while.In 1956, the family moved to Tacoma. where they have remained for the past 46 years. Odell worked for the Boeing Company as a machinist, as a carpenter for many years and owned and ran an Excavating and Trucking business for over 30 years. He served as president of the Washington State Dump Truck Association. Odell helped build many structures in and around the Tacoma area. He ran for the office of state representative of the 25th district. He had an active social life when he was not working and was a member of the Fern Hill and Parkland Masonic Lodges and the Kiwanis Club. He was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America when his children were young.Odell was preceded in death by brothers Murl and Elmer Lipp and grandson Terry Wells. Odell is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Florence, brother Verlon lipp of Monroe City, Mo, sons Ron (Toni) and Jerry (Marty), daughter Caroline, grandchildren Cindy (Rich), Steven, Jean (Justin), Nikki and Jackie and great-grandsons Kevin and Joshua. He is also survived by numerous friends from all over.Odell never really Â"retiredÂ", but rather enjoyed working and staying busy as long as he was able. In fact, he built his own home at the age of 70, with help froni his family and friends. He was often called upon for his knowledge and know-how and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved himViewing will be held on Tuesday, Januaiy 21 from 1:OOpm until 7:OOprn at Mountain View Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, at Mountain View Valley Chapel at 1:00pm
