Nelson "Pete" A Blake's Obituary
Nelson A. Blake, affectionately known as “Pete”, 85, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in DuPont, Washington. He was born on May 28, 1940, in Norman, North Carolina, where his roots remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Nelson dedicated his professional life to service, both to his country and to the well-being of others, as a career Army Psychiatric Nurse. Through decades of compassionate care and steady leadership, he rose to the rank of Major before his retirement. His military service took him across the world, but it was the Pacific Northwest that truly captured his spirit. After retiring from the Army, he chose to remain in Washington, where he found both peace and belonging.
Though Nelson never married, he lived a life rich in experience, connection, and curiosity. He had a deep love of travel and frequently returned home to North Carolina to visit family, maintaining strong ties to the place where his story began. In his later years, he developed a passion for collecting crystals, finding beauty and meaning in the natural world.
Nelson was known for his kindness, and his unmistakable sense of humor. A jokester at heart, he brought laughter to those around him and had a gift for lifting others’ spirits. He was also an avid reader, always eager to learn and reflect.
His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his values and relationships and providing him with strength and comfort throughout the years.
Nelson is survived by his brother Robert (Geanette) Blake, and his sisters, Mary (Bobby) Blake Vullock and Doris (Joseph) Blake Brownlee.
Nelson will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, warmth, humor, and faith will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
May he rest in peace.
