Nelly C. Ramos, M.D.'s Obituary
Nelly Ramos was 77 years old when she passed away, surrounded by her
loving children at home on November 19, 2018. Nelly was born in Leon,
Iloilo, Philippines on February 19, 1941 to Desamparados and Florentino
Calantoc.
Nelly was one of six siblings that grew up as a devout Catholic in Leon.
With no electricity and only kerosene lamps, Mom studied hard to
eventually graduate as Valedictorian of St. Catherine’s Parochial School.
Nelly went on to the University of the East to study medicine and became
a physician. She married her childhood best friend, Delfin Ramos, who was
serving in the United States Air Force and moved to America.
After arriving in Tacoma, Washington, Delfin drove across the country to
move to Connecticut so that Nelly could finish medical residency. With
great faith and courage, Mom persevered as the only female doctor
among many throughout her early career.
Dr. Nelly moved her family to Oregon for her medical practice. Eventually,
Delfin had the ambition to open a business and moved back to Tacoma to
create Del’s Oriental Food Mart. Dad too, was a hard working, creative
businessman focused on taking care of his customers. Nelly and Del
enjoyed their retirement years travelling together around the world.
Nelly was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She
was active in the Catholic church and her generosity to the community
touched many. She cared deeply for her family and friends, extending a
helping hand to others along the way.
Nelly is survived by her children Jenette & Chris; Christopher; Susan &
Ralph; and Cherry Ann & Mark. Her grandchildren Ariel, Mackenzie,
Gillian, Thomas, Louden, Brendan, Liam, and Luke. Nelly’s siblings are
Rafael, Teresita (d.), Salvador, Catalina, and Mary Ann.
Thank you Mom for giving us the gift of Love and teaching us
Perseverance, Humility, & Courage! You will be dearly missed by your
family and friends.
