Nellie Jean Bridston's Obituary
Nellie Jean Bridston passed away peacefully April 17, 2009, surrounded by family, after a short illness. Jean was born to Roy and Nell Colyar in Tacoma, Washington on February 1, 1926. She was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School at age 16 in 1942. She was a proud graduate of the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, and was a Registered Nurse at Tacoma General Hospital and Western Clinic for over 20 years. Jean married Army 1st Lt. Robert Bridston on March 8, 1947. An assignment to post World War II Germany in Frankfurt, from 1949 to 1952, was a highlight of their lives. Jean enjoyed a short break from nursing as one of the original seven "Meter Maids" hired by the city of Tacoma for downtown parking enforcement, from 1958 to 1960. Jean was was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Robert Bridston in November 2007, and her son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her son James (Christina), daughters Susan Swinkels (Phillip), Nikki Anderberg and Cindy Bellejos. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, April 23, in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home at 12:00 pm.
