Nancy Lou Steel's Obituary
Nancy Lou Steel peacefully passed away on June 7th at age 75. It was a sunny day overlooking Seattle's Lake Washington at Park Shore care facility. She was with her son David III, former husband David Steel Jr. and long time friend Tom Hansler. Her three passions in life were family, home and nature. But her artistry was masterfully expressed in sculpting her Washington Park home and especially the amazing arboretum quality garden, a tapestry of northwest native plants and trees. Nancy was a certified Master Gardener, an Arboretum Foundation volunteer, botany researcher at the University of Washington, a member of Junior League, collector of fine art and wine. As a loving mother and friend, she valued traditions and loyalty. Independence was her unspoken ideology. Nancy was born in Tacoma, WA on March 18, 1939, to Laura and Virgil Bergh. She is a descendant of the 9th governor of Washington State, Louis Folwell Hart. After graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in 1957, she attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Tri Delt sorority. Married to David Steel Jr. 1962-1975. Moved to her Seattle home in 1989. Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Hart Steel in December 2008. She is survived by her son David Clarke Steel III.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held in her Seattle home.
