Nancy L. Bevis' Obituary
Nancy L. Bevis
1930 - 2009
Nancylee Hale Bevis passed away peacefully March 25, surrounded by her family, due to complications from multiple myeloma. She was born and lived the majority of her life in Tacoma, Washington, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in the spring of 1948. Career pursuits included office administrator for the Tacoma Water Department, a licensed real estate broker, and a creative writing contestant. She retired in 1992 as a supervisor after 23 years of service with the City of Tacoma. Artistic endeavors included performances in several local TV commercials and as an extra in the movie After Midnight. She was conspicuously free-spirited and loved to gamble and travel. After touring all over the country since retirement with her longtime companion Duaine Moe, her favorite places were Mexico, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. Each winter they enjoyed a lengthy visit to Lake Havasu, Arizona. Her proudest accomplishments in this life, by her own admission, were her children, whom she encouraged and supported with unconditional love through sickness and in health. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Barry Bevis, in 1992, and her son Jeff, age 33, in 1985. She is survived by her daughters Susan (Marshall) Moffat and Kim (Mark) Halsey, grandchildren Jake, Shauni, Erik and Tom, and by her life partner and caregiver Duaine Moe. Viewing will be held from 1 - 9:00 PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested donations be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Good Samaritan Cancer Center for all their care, support and friendship during the last stages of her life.
