Dear Rick, Sharon, and family,
When I was young, I used to say that the worst things were weddings and funerals. I can't say I've yet become a fan of weddings in general, but I must say that I now believe that funerals can be enlightening. Your mother's service was a perfect example. I didn't really know her, and only met her a few times when I was much younger. But through the emotional remembrances of her family, I feel energized about the quest for leading the "good life". To touch people the way your mother did should be the goal of us all. Maybe if I do it right, I'll have half the effect on people as your mother has. That would be good. I tell my kids that the litmus test for living is to leave the world a better place for those that go behind you. Clearly, your mom passed that test big time.
Our sympathy goes out to you in your loss.
