Mori Jean Smith's Obituary
Mori Jean Smith, age 62, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 11th. Mori was born and raised in Tacoma, where she continued the tradition and raised a family of her own. She is survived by husband now friend Dennis Smith, daughter Sylvia and husband Micah, daughter Lydia and husband Tim, son Conner and friend Lacey. Mori loved her kids with all her soul. She has 6 grandbabies Timothy Junior, Clayton,Lillian, Hunter, Kingston and Lynden and 5 heavenly grandbabies she is now dancing with. She also is survived by sister Marcy Frlan, nieces Regan, Heather, and Raelynn, and nephew John.
Mori’s roots are spread deep throughout all of Tacoma. You can taste and smell the aroma of her cooking anytime you get near The Spar Tavern, where she worked on and off for 30 years. You can see her passion for this earth and gardening in her landscaping at Pacific Lutheran University, where she retired after a fun and fulfilling career on the grounds crew.
Mori had a love for Mt. Rainier and the bay. Nature was her passion and flowers were her talent. Her name means Forest and she represented this meaning well. A quote that summarizes Mori is "A tree with strong roots laughs at the storms." It may appear that this storm won, but it didn't. Mori laughed in the face of cancer. Faced it with courage and a peace that surpasses all understanding. She is not dead, but Alive and Free from all the sufferings of this world and is now in Jesus’s arms and reunited with her heavenly family.
We would like to thank you all for your love and support during this time. We are sad she is gone, but so grateful for getting to be a part of the gift that was her life.
Her celebration of life is at Mountain View Cemetery on September 16th at 10 AM, followed by a reception at noon. We request that all attendees please wear a Floral Print.
Please honor the life, and memory, of Mori by leaving cherished memories, messages & photos for her family on the guestbook page.
