Moises Mapue Fernandez's Obituary
Moises Mapue Fernandez, 88, of West Seattle, WA passed away on September 23, 2020. Moises was born on August 28, 1932 to parents Cirilo and Maria Fernandez. He was the third child of a brood of six children. He was the husband of the late Norma Cayetano Fernandez of fifty-seven years. He was survived by his sons Omar and Ivan Fernandez and daughters Marissa Beltran and Melodee Chrise, as well as their spouses Abigail Louisa Panganiban Fernandez, Lailani Balboa Fernandez, Richard Ramirez Beltran, John Eric Chrise and grandchildren Justin Lawrence Fernandez, Yukari Suzu Fernandez, Christian Vladimir Beltran, Carlo Vittorio Beltran, Valerie Claudine Beltran, Cyrus Vanzetti Beltran, Jillian Mary Catherine Chrise, Lauren Isabelle Fernandez and Joseph David Chrise.
Moises graduated from the Far Eastern University in Manila with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Taking after his father, he became a firefighter after passing the Civil Service examination with a high percentile at the age of 21. Being the husband of a musician and piano teacher, he displayed his talent and skill in music omposition where he composed A Manila Fireman's Hymn, "Kami Ay Bumberong Maynila" (We Are Manila's Firefighters) which he collaborated with his Theory and Composition professor Sanchez, his teacher and mentor as a student from Santa Isabel College in Manila but was eventually not taken into consideration due to peer jealousy. He retired from the Philippine National Constabulary after a career of almost 30 years of distinguished service as the station commander of Paco Fire Station, Manila, the Philippines with the rank of Lieutenant. After migrating to the United States in 1989, he was employed at Northwest Airlines, which was later acquired by Delta Airlines, for 11 years until his retirement. Moises was an an avid cruciverbalist since his younger years taking on even the hardest New York Times crossword puzzles. He was also deep into world history with the German involvements from World Wars 1 and 2. He has a vociferous appetite for novels from literature, Shakespeare, the Italian Mafia, Alfred Hitchcock, Stephen King, Robert Ludlum, Ray Bradbury and all science fiction thrillers. He also was a big fan and would never miss any shows of Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He displayed a good sense of humor with his candid spirit and easy going approach to everyone he meets making him likeable. And he loved the Asian tile game of mahjong which he enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren.
Moises was fervently devoted to our Blessed Virgin Mary and to the Black Nazarene of Jesus Christ in Quiapo, Manila. He was a good provider for the family and he enjoyed spending quality time with all his loved ones.
