Mitsuko Simmons' Obituary
Mitsuko Suzuki Simmons Died peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2014. She was 91. Mitsuko, also known as "Mitzy" by some of her friends, was born January 5, 1923 to Akizo and Sawa Suzuki in Kobe, Japan. She rarely spoke of her younger life or the war years in Japan but in 1952 she took a job at the military base near her home where she met and fell in love with, Sergeant First Class Claudius Simmons. Claudius and Mitsuko were married that same year. A short time later Mr. and Mrs. Simmons sailed to America and she proudly gained her US Citizenship. Her passion was her garden. She adored her many cats and loved watching Sumo Wrestling on TV Japan. Mitsuko was preceded in death by her beloved husband and is survived by her sons James and Cardell (Christine) and granddaughter Kaelynn. A grave side funeral service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA. on Thursday, June 19 at 2:30. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Humane Society of Tacoma and Pierce County or your local animal shelter.
