Mirian Louise Alexander's Obituary
Mirian Louise Alexander was born on July 30, 1928 to Julia and Nathaniel Jackson, Sr in Beaumont, Texas. She was the third of six children and being a middle child she enjoyed the best of both worlds. After attending Martin High School in Beaumont, she married Joseph Alexander, Sr and they had 4 children: Linda Fay, Joseph Shedrick, Jr, Freda Deniece and Paula Colette. In the latter 1950’s the family moved from Houston to Los Angeles, CA where Mirian truly blossomed.
Mirian was a lovely, multi-talented and extremely skilled individual. She was an excellent homemaker who beautifully decorated their home and often helped others to do the same. She was a phenomenal cook and it was “rumored” that Mirian’s cooking was, of everyone else’s, the closest to her mother’s (Granny) and was beyond compare. Mirian loved to cook and prepared countless chef-styled southern meals in her lifetime and baked her infamous cakes and pies for family, friends, churches, charities and for the less fortunate.
Mirian was a great and fashionable dresser who sewed, designed, and “bedazzled” all types of clothes, hats, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and a variety of other personal and home accessories. You name it, whatever it was, Mirian could take anything, put her creative “spin” on it and make it look like something you’ve never seen before.
Mirian was a longtime standing member of West Angeles Church of God In Christ pastored by Bishop Charles Blake. She was affectionately known as “the Great Lady of the Church” and garnered a special reserved seat for Sunday services. Mirian grew up loving the Lord. Mirian spent most of her time in the later years of her life devoted to church activities, committees and she sang in several of the church choirs, the most notable of which is the “Voices of Experience”. Her last solo performance of singing “Good News” was especially memorable.
Mirian was known for helping others in need in so many caring ways, most often the sick, elderly, homebound, homeless and disabled, always with a kind word and a helping hand.
Mirian moved to Tacoma, WA about 8 years ago to live with her daughter Paula, her husband Linzie Stovall and their 2 daughters and newest addition great-grandson. Mirian passed peacefully at home surrounded by her 4 children, son-in-law and granddaughter.
Mirian is preceded in eternity by her brothers, Nathaniel, Jr and James Jackson and sisters Geneva Delaney and (Julia) Verneda LaPoint-Gardner. Mirian is survived by her 3 daughters and 1 son, son-in-law, sister Grace Briggs, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
