Minnabel W. Marlatt's Obituary
Minnabel Ware Marlatt, 90 passed away due to natural causes on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. It was her time. Minnabel was born in Louisville, Kentucky; the youngest of four daughters to a Louisville and Nashville Railroad man. Always the "free spirit" of the family, she set her own course West and was a woman of many passions. Housekeeping and cooking were not one of them, but working was. After a brief stint as a railroad timekeeper, then realizing that nursing was not her calling, with the commencement of World War II, she entered and served the duration of World War II with the U.S. Navy WAVES. After brief stints in retail and the Post Office she found her career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she temporarily co-hosted a mid-morning TV segment with KING TV's Jean Enerson concerning taxes. She retired in 1981. She had a passion for theater and performed in many productions for the Tacoma and Pearl Harbor Little Theaters including "South Pacific", "Picnic", "Annie Get Your Gun", "Life With Father"; and had an extended summer run of "Hello Dolly" at Tacoma's icon "Steve Gay 90s". While a Navy WAVE, Minnabel met and married her husband Larry in 1946. After Navy assignments in California and Hawaii, they settled in Tacoma in 1959. They loved Tacoma. Both deeply religious, they were very active in their church, Life Center, and passionately studied Christianity.
Minnabel is survived by her son Todd. Larry passed away in September, 2008. A member of the Greatest Generation, Minnabel's humor and passion for life will be sadly missed.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00PM Tuesday, June 15th at Life Center First Assembly of God, 1717 So. Union, (near South 19th & Union).
