I am Dinah- Millie, on my mother's side of the family was our Mom's favorite cousin. I always wondered why Mom felt Millie was her "older sister". And I was not surprised when the story came out that, when Millie and Dean were engaged and he had to go to California (as a newly enlisted GI- WW 2) Mildred traveled from Tacoma to California. Moving in with my mom's family was the logical place, and she shared a bedroom with my ten yr old mom, who said to me "I thought she was the most glamorous woman I had ever seen." At the funeral Jan. 16, Mom delivered a beautiful eulogy for her beloved cousin. I will never forget Mildred.

Millie found a way to shine a light and make things better for everyone around her.
Many years ago as a newcomer to the family picnics - I carried a container to the desert table -popped the top and found it had been mostly devoured by our sons on the way to the event. Millie couldn't stop laughing.
She made me feel so at ease, telling me of a family story where she was similarly surprised at the lack of "treats" she had stored in the freezer when her boys were young.
It wouldn't surprise me greatly to find that she made the whole thing up just to make me feel better. What is not to love about a girl like that.

I am so sad to see of the passing of Mrs. Martin. She was my favorite teacher at Sherman. She made sixth grade exciting, as I remember the special projects our class participated in. When Sherman had their open house for their new building, I attended and was happy to have had a chance to chat with her and she mentioned that she had taught at the original and was going to see if it was possible to sub at the newest so she could say she taught at all three. There were a couple of her past students my age at the open house and she greeted us as if she remembered each of us. I will always remember her fondly as the sweet lady she was.
