Mildred Udell Harris' Obituary
Mildred (Millie), 86, born Dec. 19, 1931, in Mitchell, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2018, in Shelton, Washington. Her parents were Henry and Mary (Coulthard) Vlieger. She leaves children: Julie Anderson (Chris), Debbi Downs (Albert), and Michael Harris (Diane); grandsons: Nick and Jeff Harris and Eric Howell; great grandson Bailey Howell; and brothers: Rodney Vlieger (Virginia) and Jim Vlieger (Las Vegas). Mildred’s husband (Leonard) of 63 years preceded her in death in 2012.
The Harris family moved to Washington from South Dakota in 1949. While Len worked, Mildred stayed at home caring for the children. Later she worked at Frank Russell Company as an office assistant and was named employee of the year in 1984. She loved ballroom and square dancing, family gatherings, and traveling in their RV throughout the U.S. visiting family and friends. Mildred was active with the church and political campaigns. She was loved by many, and will be missed – we will remember all the wonderful memories.
A celebration of Mildred’s life will be held in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA, on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 1 p.m., reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
