Mildred Baker's Obituary
Mildred G. (Myhre) Baker passed away peacefully on Sept. 21, 2008. Mildred (aka Mimi) was born in Tacoma on May 18, 1927. She grew up in Roy but spent her adult life in Tacoma. She was married to Vincent Baker for 40 years until he preceded her in death in 1984. She started work for the Washington Natural Gas Company in 1945 as a bookkeeper and retired as the first woman department head in 1994. Along with her tremendous love for pets and her untiring work for the Humane Society, she was also known for her many community volunteer efforts with United Way of Pierce County, Business & Professional Women, Christmas House, Pierce Co. Consumer Credit Assoc., Daughters of Norway, Pt. Defiance Zoo and AARP - just to name a few. Mildred was devoted to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent and her stepdaughter Audrey Bridges. She is survived by her stepson Dwight (Marie) Baker and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood on Friday Sept. 26 at 11:30am. Following graveside services, we will celebrate her life with a memorial service and reception at First Christian Church in Tacoma at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society.
