Michael R Pruitt's Obituary
Michael Ray Pruitt, 61, of Lakewood, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2021 of a heart attack. He was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1960 to parents Jack and Rita Pruitt. He grew up in Lakewood, Washington and graduated from Clover Park High School in 1978.
Michael (Mike) was a man who touched more lives than anyone would ever know. He worked for Tacoma Police Department for 20 years, from 1990 to 2010, before retiring at age 50. He helped countless families in bad situations during his time on duty and was awarded the life saving award for his quick actions in saving a man that had passed out choking. Even though he had retired, he never stopped being a police officer and was always quick to act if he ever saw someone he thought might be in trouble.
In 1981, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Michelle, with whom he spent the rest of his life. Together they had 3 children, traveled the world, and built a beautiful life. Mike’s favorite things in his life were his family and friends. He was many things to many people: a caring father, a loving husband, an affectionate grandfather, a dependable brother, a fierce friend, and a protector of those in need. He and Michelle would often take their children and grandchildren on many camping trips and adventures. Mike and Michelle were fortunate enough to travel much of the last 10 years, visiting their dream destinations across the world and in the US. Mike and Michelle could often be seen riding the dunes together, boating, whale watching, and hosting BBQs for their family and friends. In his spare time Mike remodeled his and Michelle’s entire home and restored classic cars, his favorite being the 1968 Camaro he rebuilt from the ground up. Mike shared his interests with his children as they were growing up, teaching them to ride motorcycles, play baseball, repair cars, and many other activities.
Mike will be sorely missed, but the joy that he brought to those of us who were fortunate enough to know him will be treasured forever. He had a way of making everyone feel better in tough situations and could always make you laugh. He was always known to be the life of the party anywhere he went. Whenever someone was in trouble, he was always the first person everyone would call, whether it be a broken-down car, a leaking faucet, or an emergency.
Mike is survived by his wife Michelle, sons Michael and Connor, daughter Jennifer, brothers Dean, Bruce, and Randall, father Jack, grandchildren Tristan, Jace, and Jaxson, and numerous nieces and nephews. His memorial service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on April 23rd at 12:00pm with reception to follow.
