Michael D. Medved
August 2, 1946 – August 4, 2025
Michael, a beloved husband and friend, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on August 2, 1946, Michael grew up in Ellensburg, Washington, where he attended Ellensburg High School. His academic journey led him to Central Washington College and later to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned degrees in both accounting and English. These dual passions—precision and expression—shaped a life rich in both professional achievement and personal creativity.
Michael spent his career as an accountant, a role in which he was known for his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering integrity. Outside of work, he found joy in knitting and cultivating a wide variety of plants, particularly gesneriads, succulents, and cacti. His love for horticulture blossomed into a lifelong commitment, earning him numerous awards at plant shows. He was a proud and active member of several indoor plant clubs and served as both President and Treasurer of the Puget Sound Gesneriad Society, where his leadership and enthusiasm left a lasting legacy.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Medved and Flora McKean, and his brother only brother, Duane Medved. He is survived by his devoted husband, Austin Grevious, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember him for his warmth, wit, and generosity.
Michael’s life was a testament to the beauty of quiet passions and the strength of community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Tacoma Humane Society, or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
