My fondest memories of Michael were amongst the Mountain Goats,hidden Lakes, streams, forests, Grand Peaks, Yellowstone Tetons, MRNP, everywhere...needless to say portraying characters in books and talking about Dr. Julie Bell peppers. We always had a grand time and I remember submitting to his volleyball skills.

Lynne, my heart and prayers will always be with him as a loyal and dear friend. And also with you and the kids. If you make it down the Oregon coast let me know. 541-756-0895, or 541-290-9213. Kathy and I send our deepest sympathies.

I'm shocked to learn that Mike passed away. When I new him, he always seemed in good health, sometimes riding to work from Lakewood. We worked together at Dept. of Ecology, although not directly. I left Ecology in 1999 but still ran into Mike from time to time.

I enjoyed our chats, He was always friendly and smiling - admirable traits. I recall that he ran for a political office and put a lot of energy into it, sadly to no avail. I remember him telling me how much time and energy it took.

We have lost a fine man.

My sincerest condolences to his family.

Mike and I were best friends all thru junior and senior high school. We shared a lot of adventures together. Most of all I remember the many fishing vacations I took with his family to his uncle's cabin { Big Pine Lodge } in Canada. His mom and dad were very kind in allowing me to participate in their vacations over many years.
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His Shalom Peace.

One memory that stands out in my mind is seeing Mike with his two nephews, Collin and my son Karl, out in the surf at Fr. Canby State Park. He held both of their hands and would head out into the waves as far as they could to jump the Pacific ocean breakers. I remember thinking that some day those two boys would become men and would take their uncle Mike out to help him jump the waves. Hope someday they can do it in Mike's memory. Sad to lose him so soon.

Growing up we lived one house away. He was at my house one day in the summer and in spite of my protest was spinning one of my kittens around in his ball cap. Kitten peed in his cap. I laughed myself silly. Karma! Rest well friend.

I worked with Michael for years at Ecology. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I send my prayers to his family through this hard period of time. Remember he is in your hearts forever.

Mike always put a smile on my face and made me laugh. It was always fun to be around Mike in the many outdoor adventures we shared in the Tacoma Mountaineers. He was active in his community, a hard worker and wonderful family man. You are greatly missed.

Mike was pretty much the leader of the pack. We always seemed to gather at Kuntzie’s place where Ma Kuntz would always make you eat something. Pa Kuntz would let us pile into his ’64 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible and watch as Mike drove us down the road. (What was he thinking?) We would be on the tennis courts in New Philly until the lights went out. And then there was out of state adventures where road sign rearranging seemed like the thing to do. Back home there was late night “redistributing” of stacks of watermelons. I understand there is still photographic evidence of that.
Mike was iconic: a natural born leader and hilarious wit. I am so glad to see that he continued such an adventurous lifestyle and found a soulmate to love.
With deepest sympathy to his family…I can still see that smile on his face.
