Mike was my best friend in high school. We had many many many good times and a few bad times but were always surrounded by good friends. We were opposites in a lot of ways but usually figured out how to navigate what life threw at us and most of the time had fun doing it (except for the time he showed me how to box..... he kept moving backwards in his garage while I chased him in a circle. When I got close, he punched me in the face. That was my only boxing lesson.... ever) We rode our bicycles everywhere at 15 (all the way out to Xenia to see the tornado damage), then took our cars (Pinto and Monte Carlo) to the Captain Kidd Drive In and Skate World at 16. We would hang out at Gannon's barn, worked at the Villager apartments and even figured out 1 quarter at Ohio State as roommates before I came home. We lost touch when I moved to Florida in 1981. Last year I contacted him on facebook but he didn't call me and we did't get the chance to catch up. From the few pieces of his adult life that I have seen on the internet it looks like he had good things in his life. I remember him as a good friend, an honorable man, someone who was focused and motivated. I wish I had the chance to have that long conversation about how our lives turned out and talk about our youth as well. Rest in Peace

Mike, I am honored that you trusted me with some of your many stories. I'm glad I could be there to listen. I am more honored with your stories about your boys ..how much they've been through and how very proud you are on the young men they're becoming. John is a great guy and I know in my heart he will take care if Aiden and Brendan as if they were his boys AND he will make sure the boys always remember the good times.
I am honored I could join the service. I look forward to seeing you all again next time I'm in Seattle.
