Jake Ashker
Myself and a great group of fellas used to stay at Whispering Pines Resort in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for many years, which Mike owned. We always enjoyed Mike and he enjoyed us too, many evenings after hunting we all usually had a great meal and we would always invite Mike to join us. He was an interesting man and fun to be around. I also had chance to enjoy conversations about his book he had written about swat tactics and he was always willing to share his wisdom on the subject. I started in police work in the 90s and retired a couple of years ago. When some of our own swat members had some of books I was always very proud to share with them that I knew the author and he was a terrific guy. The last year I hunted in those areas Mike said he was moving back west because he really missed his family. We shared a few cold ones together at Thunder Lake that year (maybe around 2003ish) and unfortunately we said goodbyes and I never got to see Mike again. Recently when I saw the attempted on the former president I thought of Mike when I saw the tactical teams in action. I wondered how Mike was doing saw I googled him and saw that he had passed on.
