Michael Patrick Hayes' Obituary
Michael P. Hayes Together Again Mike Hayes, beloved husband, brother, uncle, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa, was born in Tacoma, WA on June 18, 1924 to Joseph and Beatrice Hayes, and passed away on Jan. 27, 2017 in Lakewood, WA. Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942, soon joined the US Navy, and married his high-school sweetheart, Verna Logan, in November of 1943. His time in the Navy was spent as an electrician on a Liberty ship, the USS Cape Johnson, serving our country in the South Pacific in 5 naval battles. He was the loved and respected patriarch of the family, and truly exemplified the values of the "Greatest Generation." After the war was over he went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell, rising from a lineman to a communication engineering manager. After retirement they got to travel with their van and trailer, and do what they did their whole lives helping others, whether to help a nephew to fish, or friends and neighbors who needed something done requiring electrical know-how. Although they had no children of their own, they became "Grandma and Grandpa" to all the children of their nieces and nephews. They were the number-one fans of their grandchildren in all their own endeavors, from sports, to music concerts and plays. Mike was preceded in death by his wife Verna. May they be united once again. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Al Satterlee, two nephews, Gary Johnson (Gerry) and Dennis Satterlee (Jolyn), two nieces, Gail Hogan and Chris Korsmo (Wayne), 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Mon., Feb. 6, 2017, at 1 pm in the Garden Chapel, with reception to follow. Viewing on Sun., Feb. 5, 2017. -10am-6pm
