Michael Jay Coney's Obituary
Michael Jay Coney, affectionately known as “Mikey” born in Bronze, New York and at the age of 14 he relocated to Tacoma, Washington to reside with his Uncle David (Blanche) Coney. He attended Tacoma Public Schools and was a graduated of Lincoln High School. Michael was active in US Army JROTC and Boy Scouts of America. He was also a peer mentor with Proteen (Northwest Leadership Foundation). Michael enjoyed music, he excelled in technology and was a known (“Gamer”). As it related to prosocial activity, Michael modeled the behavior of Excellence. He loved children and was a dedicated member of 2nd Chance Ministries where he served on the Usher Board, the Youth Department and the Men’s Auxiliary. Michael was a “true watchman”.
Upon graduation Michael enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was assigned to Paris Island, South Carolina for Basic Training. Michael completed Combat Training at Camp Geiger, Jacksonville, NC and continued on to his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) School at Meridian, Mississippi. He returned back to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 MCAS New River, NC from March 30, 2013 to October 3, 2015.
Michael is survived by his brothers Jerrick Coney, Xavier (Tara) Powell and David Coney, uncles David (Blanche) and Edward Coney. Aunts Delores (Willie) Harris and Mae (Keith) Austin; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins to include special family members; Angela Baltimore, Deborah Waterman, Lanesha Coney, Nikita Coney, Jamal Coney and Janae Coney.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Gwendolyn Coney, his step-day Glenn Williams, his Grandmother Anne Coney, his Grandfather John Coney and two brothers Anthony Coney and David Coney.
