Michael Carl Rosenquist's Obituary
Michael Carl Rosenquist, age 62, of Retsil, WA, died suddenly at home on July 27, 2010. Michael had spent the past 14 months battling a serious illness and recently seemed stronger. He was very brave during this fight and almost always kept his sense of humor. Michael was born at Tacoma General Hospital on November 1, 1947, to Carl and Cecil Rosenquist. He graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in 1966. Following graduation, Michael was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Vietnam in the artillery and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. Michael drove cab from 1978 to 2000, driving at various times for Yellow Cab, Fort Lewis Taxi, and Ponders Taxi. During the 1990s, he was a member of the Tacoma Moose Lodge 435. For the past nine years, Michael resided at the Washington Veteran Home in Retsil, WA (Port Orchard).
Michael is survived by six siblings: JoAnn Trotter of Tacoma, WA; William Rosenquist of Laughlin, NV; Gerald Rosenquist of Goodyear, AZ; Sandra Zellers of Charlotte, NC; Carlyn Van De Stroet of Graham, WA; and Gary Rosenquist of Lakewood, WA. His oldest brother, Charles Rosenquist, preceded him in death. Michael was known as "Uncle Mike" to his twelve nieces, two nephews and his many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Michael was married twice and had no children.
There will be an informal memorial service and wake at The Opal Lounge (5226 S. Tacoma Way) on Friday, August 6, 2010 starting about 5:00. An additional memorial for family and friends will be held in September. Arrangements for the September service are being made by Mountain View Funeral Home and will be announced at a later date.
