Merlin "Mac" R McKenzie's Obituary
Merlin (Mac) McKenzie passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marian, in 1999.
Mac was born the youngest child to Henry and Anna McKenzie in Virginia, Minnesota. He and his sister, Doris, and brother, Lee, were raised in a rural setting and throughout the years he relayed stories of milking cows, performing farm chores, as well as the usual mischievous activities of youth.
Mac moved to Washington State as a young adult. He spent 43 years working in various positions in the railroad industry, culminating with many years as a locomotive engineer and earning him the nickname of “Choo Choo” at his favorite local pub.
Mac, with his two children from his first marriage – Murle and Kathy – and Marian, with her five children from her first marriage – Kathleen, Karla, Karen, Korliss and Kristie – joined forces by marrying on March 20, 1956. During the next 43 years, with the ups and downs of life, they raised their seven children, and helped with raising numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Following her death, Mac continued to provide a gathering place for family members on holidays throughout the years as well as support for the large (and growing) family.
He will be remembered by all for his long life, good health and fierce independence.
