Merle Lloyd Henn's Obituary
Merle Lloyd Henn was born in Abilene, Kansas on March 21st, 1931 and passed away at Retsil Veterans Home in Retsil, Washington on December 23rd, 2013 at the age of 82.
Merle graduated from Woodburn High School in Woodburn, Oregon.
Merle was a member of the Oregon National Guard before joining the United States Air Force where he ultimately transferred to McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, to become a Flight Engineer on the C-141 aircraft during the Vietnam War. He finished his Air Force career as a Courier. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years.
After retiring from the United States Air Force, he started his own trucking business as Merle Henn Trucking operating big rig trucks.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Long Lake in Port Orchard, Washington. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Shadow, who he referred to as "My Boy".
Merle was married to Vera Pantle on June 17th, 1951. They were married 62 years. He is survived by his wife Vera; his children Susan Jarosz, Stephen Henn, Judy Ramento and Joanne Burr; his grandchildren Carrie and Jamie Jarosz, Selena Frederick, Christopher Ramento, Chrystal Peterson; his great grandchildren Elizabeth Jarosz and Logan Peterson and Adelaide Grace-Rae Frederick, brother Roy Henn and wife Merle; niece Terry Lepire and husband Ken, and their daughters Jill and Amy; nephew Bill Henn and wife Jennifer, and their daughters Emily and Ali; and Merle’s Aunt Moyne.
We would like to thank Retsil Veterans Soldiers Home and their staff for taking such great care of Merle for the last six months of his life. We would also like to thank the staff at Quailty Sitters for providing wonderful care at the home. We would espeically like to thank Sara Miller "Chadwick" who was Merle's primary care giver prior to going to Retsil. Her friendship and professionalism will be a treasured memory and he will always remain "Grandpa" to Sara.
